There was a Gay Island
The Gay and Lesbian Kingdom of the Coral Sea Islands is a micro-nation claimed by Australian gay activists in 2004. They sailed in on a ship named the Gayflower and rose the rainbow flag on Cato island. They named their capitol "Heaven".
It was dissolved in 2017 when Australia recognized same-sex marriage.
